Omolabi Adeyemo

Samuel Omolabi Adeyemo was born on 29th June, 1951 in Ipetumodu,  Ife-North Local Government of the then Oyo State (now Osun State). He was the only surviving child of his mother late Mrs. Deborah Isabambi Adeyemo, a successful merchant. His father late Chief Asalu Moses Folashade Adeyemo was a direct son of Amiga; a ruling family in Ipetumodu where he hailed from.

He was educated at Christ Mission School (CMS), wasinmi, Osun State between 1957 and 1963. After his primary education, he attended Local Authority Modern School, Ipetumodu, Osun State between 1964 and 1965; thereafter he proceeded to Origbo Grammar School, Moro Osun State between 1966 and 1970. Upon completing his secondary education, he was employed in his Alma mata as a Laboratory Attendant.

In 1972, Samuel Omolabi Adeyemo proceeded to Kiriji Memorial college Igbajo for his Higher School Certificate (H.S.C). That same year, he was the distinguished winner of the john F. Kennedy memorial essay competition for Secondary Schools. He obtained his H.S.C. in 1973 and thereafter proceeded to Ibadan Grammar School, where he began his career  in education, starting out ad integrated Science Teacher between 1973 and 1974.

In 1974, he gained admission  into the prestigious University of Ibadan and obtained a Bachelor of Science (Honors) in Biochemistry in 1977. He thereafter under look the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC) in Government Girls Secondary School (G.G.S.S) Bida, Niger State where he  taught Mathematics and Chemistry between August 1977 and July, 1978. He was also acting Head of Chemistry Department of the School at that time.

Following his National Youth Service, he took up an appointment as a chemistry Teacher at Science Secondary School Dawakin-Kudu, Kani State in 1978. In addition to his primary duty, he was also the Boarding House and Scout Master. He was also the acting Head of his service in the school.Samuel Omolabi Adeyemo got married to a committed Christian sister; Emili Kutuola ( Neea Akindltunmade) in Oyo in 1979. He met his beloved during their days in Origbo Grammar School, Moro, Osun State. Together they sojourned in Kano for three years and while still in the ancient city they were blessed with a daughter named Tolulope Joy Oluyemi Adeyemo.

He returned to Bida on 14th August, 1981( with his family) to join the service of Federal Polytechnic Bida, Niger State as Lecturer II.

In 1984, he travelled with his family (wife and little daughter) to the United States of American, having been awarded a scholarship for postgraduate studies by the Federal Government of Nigeria. He undertook the studies at Michigan State University, East Lansing, U.S.A and obtained a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Curriculum and instruction/Food Science and Technology in 1986. He also undertook a Professional Internship (Food Science and Technology) at H.J. Heinz Co., Holland, United States of American (U.S.A) in 1986.

He returned to Nigeria with his family thereafter to continue his work in the Federal Polytechnic Bida.In 1986, with Samuel Omolabi Adeyemo's support, his wife who had served as a volunteer in helping children started a Day-Care Centre in Bida, with nursery, primary junior secondary and senior secondary sections.

Again, he pursued his dream in academics further and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD.) Degree in Biochemistry from University of Ilorin in 1994. He was diligent and dutiful as a lecturer in the Federal Polytechnic Bida, as a result he rose through the ranks to the position of a Chief Lecturer. He also served in various capacities in the Institution; as Department Examination Officer, Head of Mathematics and Science Department,Dean of the school  of Applied Arts and Sciences and two terms Deputy Rector of the Polytechnic before his retirement in 2005. While at the Federal Polytechnic Bida, he served as chairman and member of several Management Committees.

Late Dr Samuel Omolabi Adeyemo's work experience in academic institutions spanned both the public and private sectors.
He was a Senior  Lecturer, Departmental Coordinator, SIWESS Coordinator and Deputy Dean of Student Affairs during his sabbatical leave appointment at Bowen University Iwo, Osun State between 2005 and 2006. While at Bowen University, he pioneered the industrial Training Unit of the  University, was a member of the University Housing Committee and Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committtee on Bowen Host Community relations.
After his sabbatical leave in 2006. Dr. Samuel Adeyemo took up an appointment at Bigham Unibersity, New Karu, Nassarawa State as an Associate Professor. The year 2007 was a trying and challenging one for him, as his beloved wife passed on in April that year. The good lord upheld and saw him through that very difficult time.
After the demise of his wife, he continued at Bigham University, where he was also Head of Biochemistry Department and Dean, Faculty of Science and technology, member of the institutions Governing Council and the Senate, Chairman  Catering Service Committee and Coordinator of both the University Entrepreneurial Development Programme and the university Industrial Training Unit until hebpeft in 2011.
Sometime in 2011, Dr Samuel Adeyemo got married to sister Lydia Adeyemo (new Kolo) in Bida and together they lived happily until his demise.
He again worked as an Associate professor in Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Lapai, Niger State between 2011 and 2014.
DR. Samuel Adeyemo was a renowned educatonist who served in the Accreditation Visitation Panel of the National Board for Technical Education to several Federal Tertiary Institutions, was a Resource person and external Examiner in different educational institutions for several years.
